In the world we live in today, it is little surprise to me to hear how Vanity Fair has stooped to exploiting a 15 year old girl so they can turn a few extra bucks.
It seems that Vanity Fair’s photographer, Annie Leibovitz, convinced Miley Cyrus to shoot some topless photos for their magazine. Miley explained that at the time Annie had coerced her into taking the photos with her “puppy dog look”. Miley, understandably, didn’t think much about them except that she thought they were “pretty”, “natural”, and “artsy”. Annie, however, should have understood (and most certainly did understand) the difference between taking a picture of Cyrus versus a Demi Moore, Angelina Jolie, or Pamela Anderson. While the latter three would understand the various other interpretations of the pictures, Cyrus, in her innocence, would not. She has only the guidance of the professional, in this instance Leibovitz, to guide her.
Adults, and especially so-called professionals such as Annie Leibovitz, should be in the habit of protecting children. However, it is plainly obvious that Annie was more interested in securing a larger paycheck and had no qualms with exploiting an innocent child.
But she had a sheet over her front. Big deal. A cop that wandered into a photo shoot with an adult and a 15 year old girl might attempt the same excuse. She wasn’t REALLY naked, officer. She was covered with a blanket.
Vanity Fair editors must have been sitting around trying to determine how to sell more magazines. Perhaps a topless teenage girl would add to their sales by bringing in the pedophile demographic?
I am sure that Miley has learned from this episode that she should not trust anyone to have her best interest in mind except for herself and her immediate family. I’m sure that Billy Ray will be having a few choice words for Annie and the execs at Vanity Fair. And I’m sure that Miley’s agent and the Cyrus lawyers will be lined up behind Billy Ray to pick over what’s left once he gets finished with them.
Miley has issued an apology to her fans about the incident. I believe that her fans will understand how she was exploited and tricked by the evil media so they can sell a few more magazines and make a few more dollars. I’m sure that her father and agent will be more involved the next time a photo shoot is arranged.
